What are the benefits of Osteopathic Manual Therapy?

Osteopathic treatment aims to improve the overall health and vitality in a patient, by assisting the body's natural ability to heal itself.  Osteopathy treats the root of the problem, not just the symptoms, allowing people to feel better, sleep better, and stay healthy.

Both acute and chronic conditions can be effectively treated with osteopathic care.

What should I wear to an appointment?

Please wear loose fitting clothing that you’ll feel comfortable moving around in and avoid tight pants or skirts/dresses. Treatment is delivered fully clothed and it is important that you are comfortable throughout the session.

You will be taking your shoes off, therefore ensure that you are wearing socks or stockings, or plan to bring a pair of socks with you.

Note, you can change at the clinic if you are not able to wear loose fitting clothing to and from your appointment.

What should I do after a Manual Osteopathic Treatment?

Light exercise is okay, like a brisk walk or some light stretching.  This will allow the body to adjust to the treatment.  Doing any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting immediately following your treatment is not recommended.

Drinking  plenty of water will help to re-hydrate your body and is always recommended.

How many treatment sessions are necessary to get better?

This answer is different for every patient and in every scenario. The goal is to make small and manageable changes with every visit that aim to help people gain health and feel better in a progressive manner. Some people might find relief after a few treatments, others may need several visits over the course of a number of months, and some people might need several years of treatment. This is determined on a case by case basis, as no two people are the same.
